AUTUMN TERM 2009

TOY APPEAL FOR BIRMINGHAM CITY MISSION

On 13th November pupils were invited to come to school in non-uniform and bring a toy gift to donate to the Birmingham City Mission, the school's chosen charity.  The day also had a back-to-front theme and many of the children got into the spirit of the day with tops back-to-front or the wrong way round.

Thanks to all pupils and their families for their generous donations.  The children receiving them this Christmas are sure to be delighted.

HOUSE MUSIC COMPETITION

The hotly contested House Music Competition took place on the last day before half-term.  The Saxons started a few points ahead after the auditions but the Angles sang and played extremely well to snatch victory by a few points and deservedly retained the cup for the second year running.

Pianist and piano teacher, Mr David McWilliam was our adjudicator for the day.  He was extremely impressed at the sing-off between Form 2 and then Forms 3 to 6 and commented on the children's clear diction and expression.  He was also very complimentary about the high standard of our soloists.  Pupils auditioned in three categories - Beginners (pupils who have not yet taken Grade 1), Intermediate (Grades 1 & 2) and Advanced (Grade 3 and above).  Congratulations to all who put themselves forward.

Parents and pupils were entertained with performances on the piano, guitar, saxophone, violin, flute and trombone.  As well as our first performance on drums by Herbie and a beautiful rendition of Truly Scrumptious by Form 5 pupils Georgia and Jessica.  Thanks go to Miss Griggs and all the peripatetic staff for their support and hard work in teaching the children.

Here are some of our talented soloists.

HARVEST FESTIVAL

Thank you to everyone for their generous gifts of food for our harvest festival services.  The children sang beautifully and have obviously been practising hard with Miss Griggs.  The Upper School Music and Drama Club and Lower School LAMDA Club both performed a short piece in their respective services.

Mr John Platt, Youthwork Co-ordinator at Birmingham City Mission came along to tell pupils more about the work of the BCM, which is our chosen charity for this school year.  He was most impressed at the generous food parcels which will help with the good work that the BCM are doing in the city.  Food was also taken to Brookvale Day Centre for the Elderly and some of our Form 2 pupils gave a harvest recital.

PUPILS ENJOY NEW FACILITIES

Lunch time has a new look at Eversfield.  The new servery and dining room extension has meant that the children

are able to eat earlier and have more choice.  The new salad bar is a permanent fixture and in addition there is a

hot choice each day.

Built adjacent to the existing Art Studio, the Design and Technology Room is in full use this term and is proving an

invaluable space.  Form 2 are currently studying the work of Wassily Kandinsky in textiles and Form 5 are designing

and making their own clock.

The music block is now complete and lessons will move from the existing music room shortly.
