SPRING TERM 2010
Kung Hei Fat Choi - Happy Chinese New Year
Nursery children have been celebrating the Year of the Tiger. In music with Miss Griggs they performed a dragon dance played with percussion instruments. Mrs Hung kindly came in to give a talk to nursery and brought in an array of chinese produce to share with the children. James Hung who is in our younger nursery blue group was very proud to share his chinese customs with his friends. These have included eating noodles, making a wishing tree and making chinese lanterns.

Form 5 enjoy percussion workshop
After a snowy start to term, throughout which school remained open for those who could make the journey; pupils
have now settled in again to busy routines of study, sport, music and extra-curricular activities.
In sport many of the matches planned earlier for the term and cancelled due to snow have been rearranged and
the football pitches have been full of activity over the last two weeks. Results are posted on a link from our fixtures page if you would like to follow our progress. The netball team are playing well in the Solihull Netball Hi5 League and won 9-0 against Sharmans Cross earlier this week. (3rd Feb).
Form 6 pupils have been busy visiting schools to sit their 11+ examinations, with some invited back for scholarship interviews. We look forward to hearing more about their offers shortly.
Two mini musical moments concerts have been held so far this term. These are opportunities for pupils learning instruments to perform in front of a small audience of parents and have the experience of performing before they move on to taking grade examinations. For the first time we held a musical moments for Form 2 pupils, some of whom
started to learn their instrument at the beginning of September. It is encouraging to see so many of the pre-prep children taking up instrumental tuition. We have also formed a beginners strings group which include our Form One violinists (aged 5 and 6 years).
The new music room is proving a valuable addition to the school's teaching facilities. We recently welcomed Matthew Spall who gave a percussion demonstration to our Form 5 pupils. He ran a workshop where pupils learnt to use their bodies as a percussion instrument and explored different rhythms. A few of the Form 5 children are learning percussion already and Miss Griggs is hoping to have a drum teacher in school in the near future. This will add to the wide range of instruments and singing tuition already available.
