SUMMER TERM 2009
Upper School Production
This year the Upper School production was Bugsy Malone. The title role was played by 11 year old Virgile Rusterholtz, who until 2 years ago had been living in his native country of France. The considerable amount of dialogue was a lot to learn for anyone and learning it in a second language is to be highly commended. Well done Virgile! The production as always had some notable individual performances: Cooper played a very convincing Fat Sam and was awarded the Drama Cup at this year's Prizegiving. George won the cup for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Fizzy and Victoria as Blousey Brown sang beautifully. Thanks go to Mr Hastings, Miss Griggs and also to our dedicated parents who worked tirelessly to produce some wonderful costumes, hair and make up.
Open Afternoon
This year's Open Afternoon for pupils and their families had the theme 'Hollywood meets Bollywood' and the school
was full of colour and vibrancy. The Lower School began the afternoon with a wonderful concert on the lawn. A cheque
was presented to Rebecca Cooper of the Bethesda Project. This year's fundraising for the school's chosen charity
has raised a staggering £6000. Rebecca who will be soon travelling to India to work for the project, was delighted to
accept this amount which will make such a difference to the small remote village of Tamil Nadu and its community. The
money will go towards building a new nursery and teaching facilities.

Following some delicious cream teas on the lawn, parents went on a treasure hunt around the school taking in the
classroom displays, facilities and swimming demonstrations. Then it was on to the playing fields for an afternoon of
fun organised by the ESA. Local Elvis impersonator Kevin Paul 'dropped in' to Eversfield and was interviewed by Form 5
and 6 pupils for the school's magazine Eversfield Chat. He also judged the winner of the best costume and handed
out our very own Eversfield Oscars. Other entertainment included Bollywood Dancing performed by some of our
Form One and Two pupils and a dancing display from Stagecoach pupils. Blessed with the sunshine everyone
made the most of the activities and delicious asian and american style food stalls.
Sponsored Walk
All pupils took part in a sponsored walk with generous donations contributing to the grand total of £6000 that was recently
presented to the school's charity: The Bethesda Project. Pupils walked a course around the edge of the playing fields,
many of the younger ones being helped by their Form 6 buddies. The number of laps ranged from 3 to an impressive
17 with some of the Upper School Children breaking in to a jog! Well done to all who took part including our youngest
nursery children aged 3 to 4 years. Thank you to all our sponsors.
Pupils achieve top marks in Associated Music Board Examinations
The number of pupils learning an instrument in school is now higher than ever, as children embrace the broad curriculum
on offer at Eversfield. Twenty-four pupils entered the recent Associated Board Music Examinations, which ranged from
Grade 1 up to Grade 4, on instruments that included the guitar, cello, trumpet, trombone, violin, piano and flute, as well
as singing grades. 7 pupils were awarded a merit, and several other pupils came very close with high passes. 3 pupils
were awarded a distinction and were marked in the top range of 130 to 150 marks. Sam Young in particular played
exceptionally in his Grade 3 piano and was given 141 marks out of a possible 150. David Hass was the youngest pupil
to enter and he was awarded a distinction in his Grade One piano. Congratulations go to all pupils for their hard work
and to our music staff for their encouragement and excellent tuition. To view our latest results, click here.
Reception in fine voice
Reception have been busy in music this term and on the Thursday before half-term parents were entertained with
a Rhyme and Song performance . The children all sang with great gusto and we couldn't help but join in by the end
in singing their favourite song 'He's got the whole world in his hands'.
The chicks have hatched!
The first topic of this term for Form 5 has been Life Cycles. The children have been learning that plants and animals
reproduce as part of their life cycle and that in every life cycle there are distinct processes and stages. To tie in with
this theme and also providing much excitement for the rest of the school, Eversfield has been looking after some eggs
and waiting for them to hatch. 20 eggs were incubated and all but one hatched. The one that didn't hatch had a problem with his foot and had to be helped out of its shell; we made a splint for his foot After 3 weeks of waiting, we are the proud owners of some very cute chicks! (see below)
