Eversfield pupils share harvest gifts and launch new charity appeal

Pupils at Eversfield Preparatory School will be thinking of others this week as they bring food gifts in for a special Harvest Festival celebration at which they will launch an appeal for Over The Wall, their newly chosen school charity for 2010-11.
The harvest assemblies will include traditional songs to celebrate the harvest, as well as poetry readings and prayers. Pupils aged 6 and 7 years in Form 2 will take a share of the gifts to present to Brookvale Day Care Centre for the elderly in Warwick Road, Solihull and entertain them with a mini concert. Gifts will also be given to Birmingham City Mission to be distributed to local homeless people and those in need. The Birmingham City Mission was last year’s school charity and Eversfield pupils raised funds of £6000 during the year as well as donating gifts at Harvest and Christmas. They hope to raise an equally impressive amount this year for the children’s charity Over The Wall which offers residential activity camps for children affected by serious illness. After spending so much time in hospitals and seeing doctors, children can enjoy being with others of their own age again and have a week of fun and fulfillment in a medically supervised and safe environment.
Headmaster of Eversfield Preparatory School, Rob Yates, says: “Our school has a long history of generous giving to various causes through its annual charity appeal, and our pupils are especially keen to help other children less fortunate than themselves this year. Our boys and girls have learnt that the activity camps run by Over The Wall can offer a life-changing week for children suffering serious illness. They want to make a difference and make it possible for more children to benefit from this fantastic experience.”
