Read-a-thon
Eversfield Preparatory School pupils were set a task with a difference during the recent half term holiday. Children in the Upper School were challenged with a week long Read-a-thon in aid of the School’s chosen charity, Over The Wall. Over The Wall runs residential activity camps for children that have suffered serious illness, offering them time to be with others of their own age and to take part in fun activities in a medically supervised and safe environment.
Pupils sought sponsorship for the number of pages or books that they could read during the week. Many pupils read hundreds of pages and several even read thousands of pages. Form Three pupil Paramjot Johal aged 8 years, read seven books in total and raised £168 in sponsorship, whilst Nayana Khosla (9) read a staggering sixteen books! Her favourite book overall was The Longest Whale Song by popular author Jacqueline Wilson.

“This is the first time we have held an event like this and I’ve been impressed with the terrific amount of reading that has actually taken place over the week. Our Read-a-thon sponsorship total was a phenomenal £2,340 and will be a significant contribution to the money already raised so far this year for Over The Wall,” says Subject Leader of English, Glyn Hastings.
