CURRICULUM
Core subjects (Maths,English, Science)
Mathematics
Solid foundations in mathematics are essential for children to succeed in life. The mathematics curriculum at Eversfield is diverse and stimulating. Pupils are grounded in the basic skills of number and computation so that they can be confident when tackling problems and encouraged to be independent thinkers. All aspects of mathematics are taught in a carefully structured programme.
Basic numeracy skills are taught from Nursery upwards, but pupils are constantly encouraged to use and apply their knowledge to solve problems and relate mathematics to every day life. In the senior years of Upper School many pupils work above the expectations for Key Stage 2 and are encouraged to continue their development.
English
Literacy skills are taught to all pupils in a creative and imaginative way. They are encouraged to be confident readers and enjoy a wide range of texts both fiction and non-fiction from the Nursery to Year 6.
English lessons are exciting with varied opportunities for children to build excellent comprehension and writing skills as well as develop grammar, handwriting and spelling. At Eversfield, children develop into confident and articulate speakers who are able to debate key issues relating to everyday life and current affairs.
The English and Music departments work together closely to produce an annual musical production. Recent performances in the Upper School have included ‘Grease’, ‘Bugsy Malone’ and ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’.
Science
The study of the nature and behaviour of the physical universe is a stimulating activity for all young children.
At Eversfield, pupils delight in the excitement of exploring science. They are enthused by the wide ranging experiences that are available to them. A dedicated and well equipped science laboratory gives pupils from Years 3 - 6 an excellent foundation on which to promote their scientific interest and natural enquiry.
Investigative work and experiments form an important part of the curriculum in addition to the independent research which all pupils are expected to undertake.
Regular trips are made to support work in the classroom, these include visits to Thinktank Birmingham Science museum, West Midlands Safari Park, The National Space Centre in Leicester and Form 5 pupils take part in a residential field trip to Preston Montford in Shropshire.
