Humanities
The Humanities – History, Geography and Religious Education – are taught in all areas of the school. In the Nursery children explore the elements through their own experiences of life and those of their families. In Reception to Year 2 pupils develop an insight into Humanities through different termly topics and assemblies.
Once children reach the Upper School, History, Geography and RE are taught as separate subjects.
In History, artefacts and resources stimulate children’s historical enquiry and pupils are encouraged to gain an understanding of chronology through the different periods studied as well as empathise with key historical figures.
In Geography pupils develop key skills through their experiences. Areas of study cover features of both human and physical geography. Project work and individual research form an important part of learning, all of which is supported by field work.
Religious Education contributes to the spiritual, moral, social and cultural education of all the pupils. Whilst the curriculum aims principally to develop knowledge and understanding of Christianity, pupils also study different world religions. They learn to reflect on their own experiences, traditions and values while also being sensitive to and accepting the views and beliefs of others. |
