LanguagesChildren’s ability to understand and speak different modern languages is essential in today’s society. At Eversfield, children receive specialist French tuition from Reception upwards. Lessons focus on speaking and listening skills, many of which pupils can use on family holidays. Pupils in Year 6 enjoy an annual visit to a château in Normandy where they are able to develop their experience of French life, language and culture. Latin is taught to pupils in Years 5 and 6. The special Primary course provides a lively introduction to the Latin language and the culture of Roman Britain. Pupils learn basic grammar and vocabulary which reinforces their understanding of English and other modern languages, and their knowledge is broadened by way of a range of myths and background information.
