SPRING TERM 2008
Arts Festival 10th to 14th March
Eversfield’s first ever Arts Week was a huge success. Both the children and staff enjoyed a fun-filled week of activities in art, drama and music.
Art Day – Some very creative work took place on the first day of Arts Week. Textile Artist, Karen Woods, visited Eversfield and helped pupils to create a textile wall hanging based on different cultures. Other activities included a piece inspired by Henri Matisse using bright colours and paper stencil cut-outs, as well as wire and cardboard sculptures which included a spectacular Angel of the North.
Music Day – Andy Wharn from the Sounds Roadshow brought along a wide range of traditional African instruments for everyone to try. Pupils also got to make their own instruments to take home. The afternoon took the form of an interactive workshop where pupils could try instruments from the 16th Century right up to the present day.
Make a Play Day – Forms 5 and 6 worked with Miss Hall studying various characters, voice production and learning about stage presence and direction, in preparation for their auditions for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, (end of year show). Forms 3 and 4 were set the challenge of ‘Making a Play’ based around a Robin Hood theme. This included making props and costumes. Parents were then invited to the performance at the end of the day.
The ‘Who’s Got Talent’ competition open to Years 1 to 6 produced a varied programme of acts ranging from mind reading magic to street dance and accordion playing. The winner was Emily Jones-Brown who played her own composition “Penguins’ Picnic” on the piano. Emily, who also performed at the Spring Concert, clearly has a bright future ahead of her and is a true example of real talent – well done!
The week ended with the Spring Concert as a grand finale. The audience was entertained with a true showcase of talent by the School’s musical groups, which included the Orchestra, Celtic Fiddlers, Guitar group, Senior and Chamber choirs.
Thanks to Miss Griggs, Mrs Beech and all the staff for an excellent week.
