Derek retired in 2025 after 46 years as a solicitor. A member of the Legal 500 Hall of Fame and an internationally recognised specialist insurance lawyer, Derek was a partner in his firm for over 40 years. His cases included landmark judgments in the UK Supreme Court relating to insurance policy coverage/principles of legal causation. Derek was a Deputy District Judge 1993-1998 and Birmingham Law Society Partner of the Year 2015. In 2014, he gave evidence to the House of Commons' Justice Committee on mesothelioma/LASPO.
Derek returns to the Board having previously been Chair of Governors in a 17 year spell as Governor. He had 2 sons attend Eversfield and currently has 3 grandchildren at the School. His mother was an assistant cook at Eversfield in the 1970s.
