School History
Eversfield opened its doors on 6th May 1931 and owes its beginning to the vision of founder, and Headmaster until 1964, Mr Cyril Denney.
The school has come a very long way from its small foundations in what was then no more than a large family house in the surroundings of Solihull countryside. The original house itself still forms the centre of the main entrance building today, but the school has been completely transformed through a comprehensive programme of visionary development.
When the school first opened there were just three senior boys (age 11 and 12), three middle boys (age 8 to 10), three junior boys (age 6 to7) and three teachers. By the end of the 4th term, there were 36 boys enrolled.
Boarding was available to boys, usually from the ages of 8 upwards and, with the exception of the war years, lasted from 1931 to 1969. The demand for places grew and boarding could no longer continue after 1969. However, in 1974 Headmaster Mr Barnes reintroduced the option for weekly boarding, with pupils returning home at weekends. This lasted until 1982 when Eversfield became a day school.
Although Eversfield was initially a boys school, girls have played an important part in its history. Between the years 1936 to 1944 there was a girls school at Eversfield although it was closed in 1939 when the war and evacuation began. It was 1969 that girls re-joined the boys at Eversfield with their introduction into the nursery department. September 2000 welcomed the first intake of girls to pre-prep 1.
Today Eversfield has over 300 pupils and is Solihull's leading preparatory school preparing boys and girls for entry to the independent and grammar senior schools across the Midlands and beyond.
The school continues to be guided by the vision of Mr Deeney and delivers an outstanding broad education within a safe, caring, happy, family atmosphere where the talents of every child are valued and nurtured. Eversfield was named Independent Prep School of the Year 2023 in the coveted Tes Schools Awards, and shortlisted as Independent Prep School of the Year in the Independent Schools of the Year Awards 2024.
