An Evacuee Encounter
How lucky we were to welcome Bella's Grandfather to one of our history lessons this week to share his personal evacuation experience with Form 6. Mr Montague, along with his mother and siblings, was amongst 13,000 children evacuated overseas. He shared engaging memories of the fear and devastation of the raids, the challenges and adventures of establishing friendships and a new life, initially in Montreal, Canada, and later in New York State, USA. He also described the reality of rationing and eventually, at the age of seven, being reunited with his father.
