Building Blocks of Resilience

For Children's Mental Health Week the whole school has been talking about resilience and what it means to the children. Our new Form 5 Peer Mentors (Katie, Matilda, Elliott, Molly, Charlotte, Ted, Orla and Ferielle) made a great start with a special whole school assembly about resilience. They played a game where everyone had to decide on the action that showed the most resilience during challenging times.

Form 6 came up with this great definition of what resilience means to them:

  • Don't give up.
  • Keep trying even if you fail.
  • One who carries on and keeps going even in hard times.
  • Learn from your mistakes.

As well as having very thoughtful discussions about what being resilient means, Form 2 played a game choosing options that are resilient actions to take. Form 1 had a go at journaling and thinking about what we are grateful for, and Form 5 have been thinking about what actions they took to help them get through a difficult or challenging time.
