Form 6 Put Maths Into Action in Pop-Up Café Enterprise Challenge

Form 6 pupils stepped into the shoes of young entrepreneurs during Lent term as they tackled a dynamic, apprentice-style Maths multi-skills challenge, designing and running their own pop-up café ventures.

Teamwork and collaboration were central to the task, which required pupils to apply a wide range of real-world mathematical skills. Each team created scale drawings of their café layouts, devised creative marketing materials, and carefully calculated costings and pricing strategies to maximise potential profit from their menus.

With menus finalised and cafés open for business, customers eagerly placed orders. But beyond popularity, the real test lay in the numbers: which café would be the most profitable?

After tallying total customer spend and net profits, Team Todal Café—run by Charlie-Bleu, Ibrahim and Isamu —emerged victorious. Their smart pricing model and efficient use of space, including a well-planned seating arrangement, allowed them to serve more customers and generate the highest profit overall.

The project was a fun and practical way to integrate mathematical reasoning, strategic thinking, and creativity—all while giving pupils a taste of real-world business planning.
