Early Year's Introduction to the Windrush Generation Legacy
Nursery welcomed Mr Leonard, Head of History, for an immersive session focused on the Windrush generation. Through a guided reading of Coming to England by Floella Benjamin, Mr Leonard introduced the children to the narrative of migration, detailing the journey from Trinidad to England. This session served as an age-appropriate introduction to cultural heritage and the logistical realities of relocating to a new climate and country. As a tribute to Floella’s father, Mr Leonard performed a live saxophone demonstration which engaged the children directly with the instruments and sounds of the era, they discussed the tropical climate and examined a variety of produce native to Trinidad including sweet potatoes, bananas and pineapples.
