The Great Debate: Junior Laureates Take the Floor at Council Chambers
Our Junior Laureates from Forms 4, 5 and 6 traded the classroom for the corridors of power this week with an inspiring visit to the Mayor of Solihull’s Parlour.
After a fascinating tour of the Civic Suite, the students took their seats in the official Council Chambers for a live, formal debate. The group had spent the previous two weeks researching a timely question: "Is technology making life better for children?"
Split into two opposing teams, they showcased superb oratory skills and critical thinking: both sides navigating complex arguments regarding digital connectivity versus the importance of real-world interaction.
Despite the strength of the supporting arguments, the final vote revealed what for some might be a surprising consensus. After weighing the evidence, the Junior Laureates collectively decided that technology is not making life better for children.
It was a fantastic day of civic engagement, and the group represented the school with eloquence and maturity.
