Saxons Blaze to Victory
Parents, families, and friends joined us for the much-anticipated annual House Music Competition. Whilst it is a competition, the emphasis is on participation and enjoyment, and it always makes a very worthwhile contribution to the musical life of the school and the concert offered a fantastic platform for musicians and singers from Form 1 upwards to showcase their musicality.
This year, the choral performances took on the fiery new dragon’s theme. Each House embraced the challenge with enthusiasm, bringing the mythical creatures to life through their energetic vocals and spirited storytelling. The competition saw 67 students audition, with 24 finalist soloists taking to the stage with confidence and poise. Performances featured a wide array of instruments — from piano and wind to strings, brass, and drums — all contributing to an afternoon of musical magic.
While the event focused on fun, creativity, and participation, the difficult task of selecting a winner fell to our guest adjudicator, Rebecca Ledgard, Director of Education at Ex Cathedra. With a background in teaching and vocal performance, Rebecca leads award-winning music projects in schools, hospitals, and communities. She conducts Ex Cathedra’s children’s choirs, manages a team of vocal tutors, and has been recognised nationally with Honorary Membership of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and been recognized for her contributions to arts and health by the Royal Society for Public Health. After much deliberation, Mrs Ledgard delivered her verdict, and it was Saxons who blazed to victory with their energetic dragon-themed performance and precise solos.
Congratulations to all the students who auditioned, performed, and supported their Houses. Your enthusiasm and dragon-inspired energy made this concert one to remember.
