Engineering Design Challenge 2022 Winners
As part of their STEM studies Form 6 have participated in an engineering design challenge to design and manufacture a battery-operated car. All the teams involved displayed tremendous team work and creativity so the difficult task of deciding the winner sat with Mrs Sliney and our guest adjudicator Mrs Mistry, a design engineer and data scientist with Jaguar Land Rover.
They started their six week challenge learning the difference between an artistic drawing of an object and a technical design. Once placed into their teams they held a planning meeting to decide on the final design, ordered their materials from the supplier and began manufacturing. There were hurdles along the way and they soon discovered engineers need to be both creative and good problem solvers as they collaborated to improve and refine their porotype designs.
The challenge culminated in a presentation by each group to the judging panel who decided on a winning model based not only on the final product but analysis of their design and manufacturing process.
