Saxons Seize the House Music Spotlight

Breaking a seven year run for Angles, it was Saxons House that seized this year's House Music Competition Cup.

There was just one house point separating the two houses as the performance day approached. In the weeks prior to the competition 67 soloists from Form 3, 4 5 and 6 had already secured a bounty of points through the audition process and the outcome was anyone's guess. With a real mix of ability levels we had vocal, piano, drum kit and flute solos, solos played on clarinet, saxophone and guitar, as well as cello, trumpet and violin.

Both Angles and Saxons formed House choirs which, for the first time this year included Form1. This was an opportunity for every child in each house to participate. Middle School children sang Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic 'So Long, Farewell' from The Sound of Music whilst Upper School pupils sang one of Disney's most well known love songs composed by Elton John 'Can You Feel The Love Tonight?

The unenviable task of deciding the winning house sat with our guest adjudicator Wesley Biggs, a professional opera singer, who told the children how impressed he was with the confidence they all showed when standing up to perform in front of such a large audience. He was ably assisted by the Head Boy and Head Girl and the House Captain who, between them, ensured everything ran smoothly.

Congratulations to all the children who performed and soloists. Whilst the emphasis is very much on enjoyment and participation there was no denying the pride of Saxons in their competition winning comeback performance.
