London's Burning

William Porter, a resident of Pudding Lane in 1666, helped Form 2 recreate the events of the fateful night when fire broke out in London. They explored what life was like in Pudding Lane, the causes of the fire, and its aftermath.

They took on different roles working in the bakery while others worked as butchers, greengrocers or in a warehouse, while others were horses or children playing in the street.

They recreated the fire starting and spreading through the wooden buildings and had the job of putting out the fire. They tried and failed with buckets of water and water squirters before finally demolishing buildings to create a fire break.

Returning to 2023 they looked at how London was rebuilt in brick and stone. The whole Form was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable and is looking forward to following up the workshop in class.
