Cultural Curiosity: European Day of Languages 2021
The week’s programme to mark European Day of Languages has been fun for all the children and has ignited their intercultural curiosity and extended their language knowledge.
A special assembly shared with Upper School celebrated the rich variety of languages spoken by pupils at Eversfield. Between them the children can speak 17 different languages with a proportion of the children being bi-lingual or multi-lingual. During the assembly the children showcased their linguistic talents with language recitals.
Mrs Baldwin took the children in Upper School and Middle School on a virtual whistle-stop tour to Europe. The finest French attractions were revealed through digital technology including a visit to the Musée du Louvre to see the Mona Lisa, Cathédrale Notre-Dame, Château de Versailles and the Eiffel Tower. Paris has never been so easy to get to!
The children also had the opportunity to combine their cultural curiosity and love of art by producing artwork in the style of Belgian artist Ben Heine. His deceptively simple technique, which he calls ‘Pencil vs Camera’, combines photographs with drawing and imagination, and the children transformed photographs of Parisian landmarks with stunning visual effects.
To develop listening skills and expand their vocabulary, Nursery and Kindergarten children enjoyed listening to the French story Pop mange de toutes les couleurs, and then created their own version of Pop the dinosaur. In Reception, the children enjoyed watching a sightseeing video of Paris before drawing their favourite monument.
Un Monde de rêves (A Dream World) by Augustin D, Form 6MS
A Dream World
For me, a dream world would be without poverty,
For me, a dream world would be without litter,
For me, a dream world would be without crime,
For me, a dream world would be without nightmares,
For me, a dream world would be without fear,
For me, a dream world would be without Covid,
For me, a dream world would be without negatives,
For me, a dream world would be without war,
For me, a dream world would be without slavery,
For me, a dream world would be without misfortune,
For me, a dream world would be with joy,
For me, a dream world would be with happiness,
For me, a dream world would be full of dreams.
