World Food Journey from Bean to Bar
Our Form 6 children have been on an amazing journey with Accent Catering exploring the sweet story of chocolate, from the lush Amazon rainforest to the vibrant high streets of cities worldwide.
As part of their project this term covering world food production, they have been learning the fascinating tale of chocolate cultivation, craftmanship and commerce. They unravelled the sweet secrets behind chocolate treats and tried their hand at tempering chocolate, crafted indulgent truffles and dipped delicious biscuits.
Throughout the term they will be examining farming practices and learning about sustainable and equitable fair trade relationships, and will conclude by taking on an apprentice-style product manager challenge to create their own chocolate bars while learning all about flavour profiling, product packaging, costing and market launching.
