What to Expect When: A Parent Guide to Learning and Development in the Early Years
As a parent I know that sometimes it is hard to know what stage your child should be at and what you should be doing to help them in their development – even as a teacher I found this tricky with my own children – so I hope you will find the guide ‘What to Expect When’ helpful.
It is a GUIDE to how children learn and develop in their first 5 years; you will see that the age bands used in the document overlap – for very good reason. Although it would be lovely if children all followed a linear graph of development, the reality is that they do not! Every child is unique, and they do not all develop at exactly the same rate as others – this is perfectly normal, and although it is extremely difficult sometimes, please do try not to compare your child to others.
If you do have any concerns about your child’s development, please do talk to us as we are here to help wherever we can.
Children learn by observing, listening, exploring, experimenting, and asking questions and so they need plenty of opportunities both at home and at school to do these. There are several pages that specifically set out imaginative and fun ways you can help your child with their learning at home.
Enjoy your child’s learning journey with them and have fun together.
